Twist ties are simple devices consisting of thin metal wires encased in strips of plastic or paper. Though twist ties were originally designed to secure the openings of garbage bags, bread bags, and the like, they now find use in a vast number of applications. The name “twist tie” derives from the method by which these fasteners work: a twist tie is wrapped around an item or items, and its ends twisted together to secure the hold. Twist ties are a quick and easy fastening solution, and can be reused almost indefinitely. Twist ties are readily available in a virtually endless array of lengths and colors. Some twist ties include special features such as printed lettering or designs, metallic overwrap, or waterproof coatings.
